Paramedic and EMT Class

This page contains information about the Silver Cross Hospital EMS System’s Paramedic Education Program.

Anyone looking to hold a class (EMT, EMD, CE, etc.) must first request permission from their EMS System utilizing the IDPH form titled EMS TRAINING PROGRAM APPLICATION. Send the completed form to the System Manager and Operations Coordinator for review and submission to IDPH. IDPH will award a “site code” if approved.

Recent graduates of the Silver Cross Hospital EMS System Paramedic program (that have not yet worked as a Paramedic) should contact their Paramedic Class Instructor for graduate letters of good standing, when needed to join a System for employment with one of those System’s departments. Remember graduates are not automatically in-System even if they’ve taken the SMO exam at the end of class. The SMO test is merely a part of a System's entry process. A graduate must obtain their paramedic license then follow the full System entry process for whichever System they plan to work in. Every System has their own process and testing may be different throughout the area.

Our 2025 Paramedic Class application process has closed as we've reached our max of 200 applications. Pre-entrance testing will take place on October 19, 2024 by invitation only. Class starts January 27, 2025 and will run through December 5, 2025

Our 2024 Paramedic Class will run from January - December of 2024.

Our 2023 Paramedic Class concluded December of 2023.

Remember to follow your education program's instructions on registering for the National Registry exam upon completion of class. Once you’ve passed the National Registry exam, you must submit required licensure paperwork to the System where you completed your Paramedic class in order to become licensed in Illinois. A NR certification alone is not sufficient to work in Illinois. Once your Paramedic license is in hand, contact your EMS Coordinator at your department/agency for System Entry instructions as you are not automatically in the System upon graduation. Each System has a unique system entry process.

Our Paramedic program meets on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am-2pm in our Silver Cross Hospital EMS Education Center located on the Hospital’s grounds in New Lenox in a separate building called the Business Center just North of the ER at 710 Cedar Crossings Drive, New Lenox, IL 60451.

Silver Cross Hospital and EMS System PEP Outcomes 2024

Silver Cross is not currently holding an EMT course. Anyone seeking EMT courses may refer to Joliet Junior College.

Physicians on Silver Cross Hospital’s Medical Staff have expertise in their areas of practice to meet the needs of patients seeking their care. These physicians are independent practitioners on the Medical Staff and are not the agents or employees of Silver Cross Hospital. They treat patients based upon their independent medical judgment and they bill patients separately for their services.
