Dr. Shashi Kathpalia

In 2011, Dr. Shashi Kathpalia chose to honor her late husband, Satish C. Kathpalia, M.D. with a legacy gift to name The Renal Dialysis Centers at Silver Cross Hospital. Satish served on the medical staff for twenty-five years as a Nephrologist and Medical Director of the Dialysis Unit. He was highly regarded by his colleagues for his research and teaching and served as the Director of the Nephrology Clinic and Coordinator of the Fellowship Program at the University of Chicago and Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center. He was awarded the “Teacher of Excellence” and contributed to five editions of Harrison’s Textbook of Medicine.

Dr. Satish Kathpalia received a Fellowship of American College Physicians, served on the faculty of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and was the recipient of research grants from the National Kidney Foundation, American Heart Association and the National Institute of Health.

He believed his research and teaching helped him remain in the forefront of clinical knowledge to better serve his patients. A soft-spoken gentleman, Dr. Kathpalia respected everyone and treated each of his patients as if they were family members.

The leadership and service given to Silver Cross Hospital and his patients, by Dr. Kathpalia, was a gift of inestimable value.

Physicians on Silver Cross Hospital’s Medical Staff have expertise in their areas of practice to meet the needs of patients seeking their care. These physicians are independent practitioners on the Medical Staff and are not the agents or employees of Silver Cross Hospital. They treat patients based upon their independent medical judgment and they bill patients separately for their services.
