Childerguild was founded in 1910 by a group of women whose mission was to support the Women’s and Children’s Services at Silver Cross Hospital. Since those early years, many women have contributed their time and talents donating more than $5.8 million to support the Hospital.
‘She Takes Care of Everything': Silver Cross Gift Shop Volunteer Drives Donations
A hospital gift shop in the southwest suburbs is run by a group of women who donate their time and skills to the community, and the bookkeeping for the store flows through one volunteer who makes its success her mission. NBC 5’s Kye Martin reports.

- Central Monitoring System and two neonate cribs for the Pediatric Unit
- Four Labor and Delivery beds and four Postpartum Hemorrhage Rapid Response Units for the Birthing Center
- EEG Machine for the Amy, Matthew and Jay Vana Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- Breast Surgery Aspirator for the Procedural Care Unit
- Two Neighborhoods (24 patient rooms/2 nurses care station) in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- Staff Education for NICU certification and training materials
- Epidural Software
- A LigaSure instrument used in the operating room
- 3 Mini-Telemetry Units
- Labor, Delivery & Recovery Rooms
- Portable Fetal Monitor Cart
- 2 Cardiac Patient Rooms
- Breast Ultrasound Equipment
- 3D Mammography Unit in the Center for Women’s Health
- Childerguild also funds continuing education for Silver Cross nurses and other caregivers.
