Nikki Banda
Robotics Program Coordinator
Between scholarships and tuition reimbursement that the hospital provided, I was able to graduate pretty much debt-free.
I started in the Sterile Processing department at Silver Cross in May of 2000 when I was 18 years old, cleaning, prepping, packing, and sterilizing surgical instruments. Working so closely with the operating room convinced me to go back to school to become a surgical nurse. In 2007, I started nursing pre-requisites at Joliet Junior College. I am currently the general surgery team leader and Shift Coordinator (charge nurse) of the operating room.
It definitely isn’t hard to see and feel the culture at Silver Cross. I am so grateful of all the education, opportunity, and resources made available to me. Between scholarships and tuition reimbursement that the hospital provided, I was able to graduate pretty much debt-free. Not only does my mother (Intensive Care Unit Systems Coordinator), sister (CNA, 4th floor), and aunt (Northwestern Medicine Interventional Neurosurgery at Silver Cross) work here, but as of this year, my 18 year old step-daughter started in Nutrition Services. I am so excited to see what her future holds. I know she will be provided with the same opportunities that I was. That is how confident I am in the Silver Cross way!
