Healthgrades Names Silver Cross No. 1 in Illinois for Surgical Care for 2025
Silver Cross Hospital announced today that it has once again achieved the No. 1 spot in Illinois for Surgical Care from Healthgrades, the leading site Americans use when searching for a doctor or hospital. This is the second year in a row Silver Cross has earned top honors for surgical excellence, placing Silver Cross in the upper echelon of hospitals for specialty care nationwide and reflects the organization’s commitment to delivering exceptional care year after year.
Silver Cross also earned a place on Healthgrades’ 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery ranking for two years running, placing the 348-bed hospital in the top 5% of hospitals in the nation. Other accolades include 5-star ratings for heart attack care, pneumonia and the treatment of gastrointestinal bleeds.
“Earning the No. 1 spot for surgical care in Illinois for two years in a row is truly a reflection of the consistent and focused efforts our Silver Cross Medical Staff members, surgeons, advanced practice professionals and staff have put into delivering superior outcomes for our surgery patients,” said Dr. Joseph Hindo, Silver Cross Hospital Chief of the Medical Staff. “It also lets our community know that when it comes to having surgery, there’s no reason to go anywhere else when you can receive nationally recognized care right here at Silver Cross.”
“At Silver Cross, we’re known for our culture of excellence and for delivering an exceptional experience to every patient, every time,” added Michael Mutterer, RN, MA, LCPC, CADC, LNHA, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Earning this prestigious award for the second year in a row demonstrates that Silver Cross is focused on what matters most to our patients: excellent outcomes. Congratulations to our entire surgical team on this incredible achievement.”
As part of its 2025 hospital assessment, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 of the most common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to determine the top performers in specialty care. By offering easy access to objective performance measures, Healthgrades helps consumers find and select a hospital that excels in providing the care they need.
As variation in performance among hospitals continues to grow, it is increasingly important for consumers to seek care at top-rated programs. Healthgrades’ 2025 analysis revealed that if all hospitals as a group performed similarly to five-star hospitals during the 2021-2023 study period, on average, 224,958 lives could potentially have been saved and 141,692 complications could potentially have been avoided.*
“Healthgrades commends Silver Cross Hospital for their clear commitment to delivering consistently superior patient outcomes in critical service areas such as surgery and heart care,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of data science at Healthgrades. “Silver Cross Hospital’s leadership, expertise, and unwavering dedication to clinical excellence set a high mark for specialty care in Illinois and nationwide.”
