For over 100 years, Childerguild has served Silver Cross Hospital by raising over $5.5 million to support women and children. The annual tradition of the Childerguild Ball began in 1928 as a fundraiser for the hospital’s Obstetrics and Pediatrics departments and keeps going strong thanks to the commitment of the members of Childerguild and the many friends of the hospital who contribute to make this event a great success year after year.

Silver Cross Serhing Medal of Excellence for Healthcare

The Silver Cross Sehring Medal of Excellence, honoring the memory of George H. Sehring, M.D.—a dedicated physician who served the community for more than 40 years—recognizes the accomplishments of an outstanding individual for service to the healthcare profession.

This year’s recipient is Dr. Daniel Co., board-certified internal medicine physician in Lockport. Dr. Co joined the Silver Cross Medical Staff in 1999 and has held various leadership positions including the Chief of Staff, Chief of Staff Elect, Secretary/Treasurer, Chair of the Department of Medicine, and Co-Chair for the Campaign for Heart Care Medical Staff Appeal which raised over $300,000 for Silver Cross Hospital’s open and structural heart surgical program. Along with his wife, Dr. Kit Lee, he has led fitness programs for the Silver Cross Medical Staff as part of the Physician Wellness initiative. His father, Dr. Bun Siu Co, received the Silver Cross Sehring Medal of Excellence in 2004.

Silver Cross Sangmeister Medal of Excellence for Community Service

The Silver Cross Sangmeister Medal of Excellence will also be awarded at the Childerguild Ball. This award is named after the late U.S. Congressman George E. Sangmeister, the medal’s first recipient, and is bestowed upon a leading citizen recognized for competence, service, and dedication in a field other than healthcare that contributes to the common good.  The recipient exemplifies the values of caring service that is the cornerstone of Silver Cross Hospital.

The 2023 recipient is Timothy Baldermann who is serving his fourth term as the mayor of the Village of New Lenox and was voted as Best Mayor in 2022 Southland’s Best. Under Baldermann’s leadership, New Lenox has received the Governor’s Hometown Award, Safe Community designation from the World Health Organization and National Safety Council, Best Municipality, one of the best places to live, and best festivals for Christmas in the Commons.  Baldermann was also instrumental in bringing the Silver Cross replacement hospital and Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospital to New Lenox and surrounding communities. In addition to serving as mayor, he is the superintendent of the Union School District 81 in Joliet and former Police Chief for Chicago Ridge. Before elected Mayor in 2007, Baldermann served on the New Lenox Board of Trustees, as President of the New Lenox District 122 School Board and on the New Lenox Republican Precinct. He is currently a member of the Metra Board.
