Silver Cross Launches Sneaker Drive Fundraiser to Raise Money for Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
The Silver Cross Foundation is holding a Sneaker Drive Dec. 19, 2022 through Jan. 23, 2023 to raise money to purchase a new treadmill for the cardiac rehabilitation patients at Silver Cross Hospital. Silver Cross will earn funds for each pair of gently worn, used, and new adult and children’s athletic shoes collected – and anyone can help.
Silver Cross has partnered with GotSneakers, a social enterprise, for this unique fundraising program that asks communities to reach into their closets, not their pockets. The sneaker recycling program helps keep sneakers out of landfills, which has harmful effects on our environment, and helps organizations like Silver Cross raise much-needed funds.
“We are excited about our sneaker drive,” said Tracy Simons, Executive Director for the Silver Cross Foundation. “It’s that time of year when many people give or get new sneakers as well as clean out their closets ready to start fresh in the New Year, so why not donate them instead of throwing them away? Your donation will be given to someone around the world who is in need of shoes, prevent harmful chemicals from polluting our surroundings and also help patients who are recovering from open heart surgery.”
The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Silver Cross strives to help individuals recover from a cardiovascular event and prevent future heart problems. The program is designed to improve the functioning of the heart and lungs, strengthen muscles, and help patients gain the confidence they need to return to living a high-quality life.
Collection containers can be found on the campus of Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox at the following locations: Pavilion D, 1851 Silver Cross Blvd.; Pavilion A, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd.; Main Hospital Information Desk; and Encore Shop Entrance, 710 Cedar Crossing Drive. Donations can also be dropped off at Silver Cross Health Center, 12701 W. 143rd St., in Homer Glen.
