Inaugural Silver Social Raises a Bundle for New NICU

Silver Social 1

The Silver Cross Foundation raised a bundle at its Inaugural Silver Social fundraiser to benefit the proposed new Amy, Matthew and Jay Vana Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Silver Cross Hospital. Over 230 friends and supporters attended the luncheon on April 28 at CD & ME in Frankfort donating more than $113,000.

The Silver Social Committee was chaired by Michele Vana who along with her husband, Tom, made a lead gift to support the new NICU which is named after their premature triplets. This talented group of volunteers transformed the rustic venue into a beautiful cherry blossom garden. The delicate trees represented beauty, love, and new beginnings like the birth of a child.

Guests were invited to sip a baby bellini, view a mock NICU room, and participate in a one-of-a- kind Dollars for Diapers raffle purchasing premature diapers stuffed with raffle tickets to win donated experiences and unique prizes. Lunch consisted of a delicious finger-sandwich trio coupled with a poppyseed salad followed by an assortment of fruit tarts and cheesecake. However, the highlight of the Social was the Big Reveal video of the Amy, Matthew and Jay Vana NICU.

Silver Social 2With the expected summer 2022 opening of Will County’s first and only Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Silver Cross Hospital, premature newborns and full-term babies with congenital disorders no longer have to travel far for safe, advanced care. The $12.9 million Amy, Matthew and Jay Vana Neonatal Intensive Care Unit features 24 private rooms, a comfortable family lounge, and dedicated rooms for parents to spend the night and be intimately involved in their baby’s care. Patients are safely cared for 24/7 by a team of highly skilled neonatologists, neonatal nurse nurses, respiratory therapists and other caregivers and have immediate access to Chicago’s Lurie Children’s Hospital pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists.
