For Silver Cross Nurses, Kindness Inspires Kindness 24/7
“Kindness Inspires Kindness” is the theme Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox has chosen for its 2022 observance of National Nurses Week.
Silver Cross Hospital Nurses receive a blessing of the hands, a time-honored tradition at the New Lenox hospital.
And, according to Michael Mutterer, RN, MA, LCPC, CADC, LNHA, Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Silver Cross, it’s a perfect fit!
“At Silver Cross, we’re known for our exceptional nursing care,” Mutterer explains. “That’s why we get thousands of letters each year praising our nursing staff for the wonderful care they provide to our patients and their families. The kindness of our nurses is always on display: 24/7 365 days a year.”
Each year, May 6 – 12 is designated as Nurses Week to recognize and thank nursing professionals across the U.S. and at Silver Cross for their vital and unique contributions to healthcare.
“Silver Cross has an incredible staff of more than 1,300 registered nurses, advanced practice nurses and certified nursing assistants, who not only are exceptionally skilled in patient care, they’re compassionate, caring, courageous and wonderful advocates for their patients,” Mutterer said.
Never was that more apparent than during the two-year-long COVID-19 pandemic, when visitors were restricted – and at times prohibited – at hospitals across the U.S.
“Our nurses became like a second family to our patients, offering comfort, holding a hand and reassuring our patients when they needed it most,” he added. “Our Silver Cross nurses also continue to deliver outstanding, safe patient care; our 14th Straight A for Patient Safety from the Leapfrog Group this past November is certainly evidence of the extraordinary care they and our entire Silver Cross Family provide to our patients.”
To support the next generation of nurses, Silver Cross Hospital and Lewis University in Romeoville entered into a unique partnership last fall to provide student loan repayment support of up to $27,000 for Lewis nursing graduates who pursue at nursing career at Silver Cross after graduation.
Equal payments will be made directly to students over a four-year period which they can use to assist in repaying their student loans. For Lewis University graduates to qualify, they must
