Encore Shop Raises $50,000 for Cardiac Patient Room at Silver Cross Hospital
The Advisory Board recently gave the Silver Cross Foundation $50,000 to help support the hospital’s new 16-bed unit to care for open heart and structural heart surgical patients. Since 2019, Silver Cross has performed over 450 advanced cardiac procedures including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), a minimally invasive procedure used to replace a diseased aortic valve.
“We are extremely grateful to the Advisory Board for their generous donation to support our Campaign for Heart Care,” said Tracy Simons, Executive Director of the Silver Cross Foundation, the 501c3 fundraising arm of the Hospital. “It is because of donor support that Silver Cross now has the capability to provide innovative, multi-specialty care for patients with complex coronary disease.”
For 130 years, the volunteer members of the Advisory Board have been raising funds for Silver Cross Hospital. First as the fundraising arm of the Will County Union of King’s Daughters and Sons who opened the first Silver Cross Hospital on the eastside of Joliet in 1895. For the past 60 years, the Advisory Board has operated a resale store called the Encore Shop. All proceeds are donated to Silver Cross to purchase a variety of patient care equipment, transportation vehicles, and computer technology. In the last 30 years, the charitable group has donated over $1.4 million to the Hospital’s Foundation.
Today, the Encore Shop is located on the Silver Cross Hospital campus at 710 Cedar Crossing Drive, New Lenox –across from The Kurtz &Vana Family Pavilion. The shop is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations can be dropped off at the Encore Shop during regular business hours or anytime in the collection bin on the south side of the Hospital. The Encore Shop accepts new and gently used adult and children’s clothing, handbags, shoes, antiques, household items, jewelry, linen and seasonal decorations.
