Childerguild Recognized for $150,000 Gift with Birthing Suite Reveal Party
The Silver Cross Foundation commemorated Childerguild’s $150,000 investment in expanding the Women and Infant Birthing Center with a special Reveal Party on June 26. Since 1910, the women’s auxiliary has generously supported the Hospital’s obstetrics and pediatrics services with more than $4.5 million in donations by operating the gift shop and hosting the annual Childerguild ball.
New Labor, Delivery & Recovery Rooms
To accommodate the growing number of special deliveries, Silver Cross Hospital has added three spacious Labor, Delivery and Recovery (LDR) rooms to the Women and Infant Birthing Center bringing the total to 15.
Just like the existing LDR rooms, these beautiful new birthing suites feature a host of amenities designed for comfort with an important addition – large immersion tubs for laboring moms.
Other amenities include:
- Private bathroom
- Sofa sleeper
- Glider chair
- Blanket warmer
- In-room refrigerator
- Flat-screen TV
- And more.
An obstetrician/gynecologist is in-house 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Upon arrival, patients are partnered with a specially trained obstetrical nurse certified in electronic fetal monitoring who’ll assist patients through delivery. The unit also features mother/baby couplet care, which means that the same experienced nurse will care for both mom and baby until it is time to go home. This ensures continuity of care and improved communication between the patient, family, nursing staff and physicians. Lactation consultants are also available for support to new moms who choose to breastfeed their babies. They offer education and support before and after delivery as well as when patients return home.
Advanced Neonatal Care Coming this Winter
To further enhance the level of care Silver Cross already provides, Childerguild has donated another $150,000 to help build Will County’s first Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) so high-risk expectant mothers and critically ill babies will no longer have to travel for safe, advanced care. Opening in early 2022, the 24-bed unit modeled after Chicago’s Lurie Children’s NICU will be adjacent to the Birthing Center and offer all single-family private rooms.
To help give babies a fighting chance, make a charitable donation to support the Amy, Matthew & Jay Vana NICU at Silver Cross Hospital.
