Block Electric to Receive New Corporate Citizen Award at Golf Outing
The Silver Cross Foundation will hold its Annual Charity Golf Classic Monday, June 28, 2021 at Crystal Tree Country Club in Orland Park benefiting Silver Cross Hospital. To commemorate the fundraiser’s 30th anniversary, Silver Cross will present Block Electric Company with the first Silver Cross Corporate Citizen Award.
The new award recognizes a local business that has demonstrated meaningful leadership through corporate social responsibility programs, philanthropy and volunteerism in our community and at Silver Cross Hospital.
Block Electric Company, a family owned business established in 1920 with offices in Shorewood and Niles, has a longstanding tradition of giving back. Since 1991, the Block Family Foundation has contributed over $2.5 million to many charitable organizations including the Silver Cross Foundation. Their commitment to ensuring quality healthcare is available in our community dates back more than 30 years. The Company has pledged their support to every Silver Cross capital campaign – from expanding the emergency department and inpatient services to building the replacement hospital to the current Campaign for Heart Care to help fund the Hospital’s new structural heart surgery program.
“Not only are they a loyal corporate philanthropy partner, but they literally help keep the lights on at Silver Cross Hospital,” said Mark Stevens, Silver Cross Foundation Board of Directors Chairman. “To top it off, Block Electric has participated in every Silver Cross Charity Golf Classic to date; rain or shine!”
In addition to supporting Silver Cross Hospital and many others, Block Electric has provided over $250,000 in college scholarships to their employees’ children; and has participated in the American Cancer Society’s Walk and Roll event in Chicago for the past 10 years raising more than $84,000 in donations.
“Block Electric exemplifies the values of caring service to others that are the bedrock of Silver Cross Hospital tradition,” said Tracy Simons, Silver Cross Foundation Executive Director.
Sponsorship opportunities and limited morning and afternoon tee times for 18 holes of golf are available by contacting the Silver Cross Foundation at (815) 300-7105. Prizes will be awarded for the top three scores, longest drive, and closest to the pin. In addition, golfers can win a 2021 D’Arcy automobile and $10,000 cash with a Hole-in-One.
“This past year has been one of the most challenging for our community, our country and our world,” said Rudy Mahalik, Jr., Silver Cross Charity Golf Classic Chair. “Yet, it has been our Silver Cross Family who has been there for our community during this time of need. I can’t think of a better way to support and thank all the healthcare heroes—doctors, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, etc., than by participating in the annual Silver Cross Charity Golf Classic.”
