Silver Cross Offers Classes and Support Groups in February

Silver Cross Hospital offers a variety of health education classes and support groups during the month of February. For more information or to register, visit www.silvercross.org.  

Breastfeeding Support Group

The Silver Cross Birthing Center’s certified lactation consultants will host a free breastfeeding support group meeting on Friday, Feb. 14 and 28 from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the hospital’s Conference Center, Pavilion A, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. New mothers have many questions and concerns about breastfeeding in the weeks leading up to and after birth. The Breastfeeding Support Group is a way to exchange information and experiences. Infants are welcome to attend. First-time participants should register in advance at www.silvercross.org. 

Stroke Support Group

Stroke survivor’s family members and caregivers are welcome to attend the Silver Cross Neuroscience Institute’s Stroke Support Group. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 12 and 26 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Baby Bereavement Support Group

Silver Cross Hospital offers a support group for parents who have experienced loss during pregnancy, at birth or shortly after, or from early Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). The Baby Bereavement Support Group will meet Thursday, Feb. 13, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the hospital’s Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., Pavilion A, New Lenox. Prepared Childbirth Classes

Silver Cross Hospital will offer a two-part weekday Prepared Childbirth Class on Tuesday, Feb. 18 and Wednesday, Feb. 19. from 6 to 9 p.m. All classes will be held in the hospital’s Conference Center, Pavilion A, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Participants will receive instruction from a certified childbirth class instructor on breathing and relaxation. She will also review the labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum, and other birthing options. A tour of the Birthing Unit is included. Cost is $80 per couple. Register at www.silvercross.org. 

Robotic Total Knee Replacement

Join Dr. Robert Daley, an orthopedic surgeon, for a discussion on the latest minimally invasive total knee replacement techniques including Mako™ robotic-arm-assisted surgery, allowing for a precise fit of your knee implant, increased bone preservation added stability and reduced pain. This free event will be held on Feb. 25 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Register at www.silvercross.org. 

Bariatric Support Group

Silver Cross Hospital in partnership with BMI Surgery hosts a free Bariatric Support Group for individuals who have undergone weight loss surgery. The meeting will be held Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Silver Cross Hospital, Pavilion A, Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Obesity & Your Health

Looking to lose weight? Join Drs. Christopher Joyce and Brian Lahmann, experienced gastric bypass surgeons with Bariatric & Minimally Invasive (BMI) Surgery at Silver Cross Hospital, for a free informational session about Obesity & Your Health: Is Weight Loss Surgery Right for You? Birthing Center Tours

Please Note: Silver Cross currently has restricted visiting hours due to increased influenza activity. No visitors under the age of 18 will be allowed on the birthing center tours until further notice.

Silver Cross Hospital will offer free Birthing Center Tours for expectant families at the hospital, 1900 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. The hour-long tours are offered Sundays at 1:30 p.m. and one Tuesday a month at 7:30 p.m. in the hospital’s luxurious birthing suites. Register at www.silvercross.org. 

Blood Pressure Screenings

Silver Cross offers free blood pressure checks daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Silver Cross Health Center, 12701 W. 143rd St., Homer Glen. Walk-ins welcome. For more information, call (708) 364-6337. 

Calcium Artery Scoring Screening  

Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox and the Silver Cross Health Center—Homer Glen offers a quick and painless test using a high-speed CT scanner that can measure calcium deposits in the coronary arteries to determine your risk of having a heart attack. Calcium artery scoring is ideal for men over age 45 and women over age 55 who smoke, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or a family history of premature coronary artery disease. This scan is available for $49. Call (815) 300-7226 for an appointment. 

Postnatal Physical Therapy Screenings

The Shirley Ryan Ability at Silver Cross offers free postnatal physical therapy screenings for women six weeks to one-year post-delivery and who are experiencing pelvic or perineal pain, urinary or fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse or separation of the abdominal muscles. Screenings take place at the Silver Cross Health Center, 12701 W. 143rd St., Homer Glen. During the 15-minute exam, a new mom’s birthing history and current problems will be reviewed. Women’s Pelvic Health Consultation

Women experiencing urinary incontinence, urinary urgency, and frequency, pelvic pain, bowel incontinence, constipation, or painful intercourse can meet with a physical therapist specializing in pelvic health issues at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab at Silver Cross—located at 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., Pavilion A, First Floor.
