Silver Cross Hospital Sees Dramatic Increase in COVID-19 Patients

As the spread of COVID-19 continues throughout the region, Silver Cross Hospital continues to see a dramatic increase in the number of COVID-19 patients at its New Lenox campus.

As of April 1, the hospital has 40 inpatients who have tested positive for COVID-19, with another 28 patients classified as persons under investigation (PUIs). That brings the total inpatient population of confirmed and suspected COVID-19 cases at Silver Cross to 68.

All 68 patients remain hospitalized in isolation.

Despite the high number of confirmed and suspected COVID-19 patients that Silver Cross is already treating, the hospital is also complying with an order to accept patients from Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill.

“I am in constant contact with my colleagues at Amita Saint Joseph Medical Center and working with them and Stateville to direct patients where there is capacity. This is a constantly changing situation,” said Silver Cross Hospital Chief Medical Officer Christopher Udovich, M.D.
