Silver Cross Senior Advantage to Host Free Health Fair Nov. 8
Free health screenings, Medicare education, flu shots and more will be featured at the Silver Cross Senior Advantage Health Fair Friday, Nov. 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.
Brian Thornton, Director of Individual Medicare Product Sales from Blue Cross and Blue Shield, will present a free lecture entitled Medicare 101 at 9:15 a.m. and Dr. Reshma Relwani, internal medicine doctor from Silver Cross Medical Group, will discuss important screenings available to Medicare recipients at 10:15 a.m.
Attendees can also gather educational materials from representatives from Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, and United Healthcare.
Free health screenings include:
- Blood pressure
- Blood glucose (non-fasting, finger stick)
- Colon cancer screening kits
- Fall and balance screenings performed by Shirley Ryan Ability Lab’s Brain & Balance Clinic
- Pulse oximetry
- Ocular pressure screenings provided by Advanced Eye Care SC
Walgreens will offer flu and pneumonia immunizations (insurance will be billed). In addition, attendees can receive information about stroke from the Silver Cross Neuroscience Institute; emergency care and urgent care; cancer prevention and care; diabetes education from the Silver Cross Diabetes Center; Home Health; Wound Care Center; and volunteering opportunities at Silver Cross.
Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospital will provide information on mental health resources for all ages, including the senior population. There will also be representatives from the following skilled nursing facilities: Mother Theresa Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Alden Estates in Shorewood, Lemont Center and Victorian Village.
Complimentary coffee and light refreshments will be provided. The fair will be located in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox; complimentary valet parking will be available.
