Silver Cross Advisory Board Donates $60,000 for New Mattresses

The Advisory Board recently gave Silver Cross $60,000 to purchase 120 mattresses. This latest gift is the first installment of a $134,500 pledge to also invest in scales and thermometers for the mobile integrated healthcare program, safe patient handling equipment, bariatric motorized wheelchair, a GlideScope and a non-invasive ventilator.

“We are extremely grateful to the Advisory Board for their generous donation that will allow us to enhance the quality of care and improve the patient experience,” said Tracy Simons, Executive Director of the Silver Cross Foundation.

Not only are the new mattresses more comfortable, but they are designed for added safety when the patient sits on or moves toward the edge of the bed. There is a protective feature that helps direct the patient’s center of gravity safely back toward the center of the bed.

The Advisory Board raises funds for Silver Cross Hospital by operating a resale shop called the Encore Shop. Over the past 30 years, the charitable group has donated over $1.3 million to Silver Cross for the purchase of a variety of patient care equipment, transportation vehicles, and computer technology.

The Encore Shop is located on the Silver Cross Hospital campus at 710 Cedar Crossing Drive, New Lenox –across from The Kurtz &Vana Family Pavilion. The shop is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All proceeds benefit Silver Cross Hospital. Donations can be dropped off at the Encore Shop during regular business hours or anytime in the collection bin on the south side of the hospital. The Encore Shop accepts new and gently used adult and children’s clothing, antiques, books, household items jewelry, linen and seasonal decorations.
