Silver Cross Foundation Appoints New Board Members
The Silver Cross Foundation announces the recent appointment of Sonia Coleman, Susan Frangella and Lydia Garvey to the Foundation Board of Directors.
“We are delighted that Sonia, Susan and Lydia have chosen to join the Silver Cross Foundation Board,” said Tracy Simons, Executive Director of the Silver Cross Foundation. “With their support and guidance, we will continue to provide needed financial resources to assist the hospital in bringing new services –including open heart surgery to our patients and the community.”
Sonia Coleman
Sonia Coleman has a law practice in Orland Park counseling clients on estate planning, probate, labor and employment, business formation, contracts negotiation and risk management issues. She has developed and taught courses as an adjunct professor at Prairie State College, Dominican University and Moraine Valley Community College. Coleman earned her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Howard University and her Juris Doctorate from Loyola University Chicago. With a strong commitment to the community, Coleman has chaired committees for the Black Women Lawyers' Association of Greater Chicago and the Council on Legal Education Opportunity. For her many contributions, Coleman received the Health Care Service Corporation's President's Diversity Award and the Black Women Lawyers' Association of Greater Chicago's President's Award. She was selected to be a Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow in 2010, currently serves as a Faculty Advisor for The John Marshall Law School’s Business Enterprise Law Clinic, and is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Orland Park Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Professional Women’s Network Chicago Southland and the Veterans Action Committee for the Tinley Park Chamber of Commerce. Coleman resides in Tinley Park with her husband, Mark, and their two teenage children.
Susan Frangella
Susan Frangella has been a longtime supporter of Silver Cross Hospital as a volunteer, community trustee and philanthropist. An active member of Childerguild, Frangella has been instrumental in raising funds to benefit women and children services. In 2012, she served as a co-chair for our Illumination Gala where over 1,100 friends of Silver Cross Hospital were treated to an unforgettable evening of dining, dancing, music and entertainment, all in celebration of the historic opening of the new Silver Cross Hospital. In addition to sharing her time and talents with Silver Cross, Frangella volunteers with the Crisis Center of South Suburbia. She is also an officer for the Lawrence J. Beal Charitable Foundation, which honors her late father who was the Founder and Chairman of National Railway Equipment Company (NRE) headquartered in Mt. Vernon, Ill. Coleman currently serves on NRE’s Board of Directors as Treasurer and resides in Orland Park with her husband, Patrick.
Lydia Garvey
Lydia Garvey is the vice president and general manager of Hollywood Casino in Joliet. A native of Nebraska who earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University, Garvey began her career as a cocktail server on a riverboat in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She has served in executive leadership positions with Caesars Entertainment-owned Horseshoe Casino, Station Casinos in Southern Nevada and Texas, and Hollywood Casino in St. Louis. Since joining Hollywood Casino – Joliet in 2018, Garvey has become vested in the community and is currently a member of the Executive Committee & Board of Directors for the Will County Center for Economic Development. She resides in Shorewood with her husband, Larry.
Coleman, Frangella and Garvey join the other members of the Silver Cross Foundation Board of Directors. They are Dorothy Brown (Secretary), Ruth Colby, Laura Czerkies, Carolyn Dystrup, Judy Hageman, (Treasurer), Stacy Holland, Lynn Lichtenauer, Craig Lyons (Vice Chairman), Kathy Miller, Jim Pitcairn, Val Rand, Tracy Simons, Mark Stevens (Chairperson), and Michele Vana.
