Silver Cross Hospital Receives "A" Grade From Leapfrog Group
Silver Cross Hospital has once again been recognized for its dedication to patient safety by being awarded an “A” Hospital Safety Grade by the The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. health care system. The group rates how well hospitals protect patients from errors, infections, and accidents that can cause harm. Only 33 out of 113 hospitals in Illinois received an “A” and Silver Cross is the only hospital in Will County to do so. This is the sixth time Silver Cross has received “Straight A’s.”
“Silver Cross is dedicated to delivering safe, high quality care for all of our patients,” said Ruth Colby, President and CEO of Silver Cross Hospital. “When patients choose Silver Cross, they can rest assured they will receive care from a highly reliable hospital that has higher survival rates, less complications, and a safe environment.”
“It takes consistent, unwavering dedication to patients to achieve the highest standards of patient safety. An ‘A’ Safety Grade recognizes hospitals for this accomplishment,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the clinicians, Board, management and staff of Silver Cross for showing the country what it means to put patient safety first.”
This A grade is one of the most meaningful honors a hospital can achieve, and one of the most valuable indicators for patients looking for a safe place to receive care. The Safety Grade is becoming the gold standard measure of patient safety, cited in MSNBC, The New York Times, and AARP The Magazine. Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public.
