Telemedicine
Another feature offered by the Silver Cross Birthing Center is the telemedicine program in conjunction with the Children's Memorial Cardiologists. Telemedicine is a cutting edge diagnostic tool that allows pediatric cardiology specialists to analyze a baby's echocardiogram in real time through a video linkage with Silver Cross. Each year in the United States more than 270,00 newborns require some type of specialized diagnosis such as an echocardiogram. Now rather than transporting a baby downtown, a quick accurate diagnosis can be reached in a matter of minutes onsite at Silver Cross. Children's Cardiologists are available to communicate with Silver Cross 24 hours a day via telemedicine. What would normally take hours now takes about a half of an hour thanks to this technology. Generous support from the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland helped fund this program.
