Chest Pain Center
The Chest Pain Center at Silver Cross Hospital is a specifically
designed area of the Emergency Department reserved for patients
experiencing chest pain or cardiac problems. The Center is equipped with
nine monitored beds and special medical equipment to immediately begin
treatment for the patient experiencing chest pain.
A multidisciplinary team of emergency healthcare professionals,
including physicians, registered professional nurses and technologists
are dedicated to providing immediate care and triage to chest pain
sufferers with state-of-the-art equipment and treatments because when
dealing with chest pain, every second counts.
And just as every second counts before getting to the hospital, so it
does once a patient arrives in the Emergency Department. The Chest Pain
Center at Silver Cross Hospital is supported by a team of cardiologists,
nurses and technologists who are available every day, 24 hours, 7 days a
week, to provide emergent diagnostic coronary angiography to patients
initially treated in the Emergency Department for chest pain. Also known
as a "Cardiac Cath" this diagnostic procedure allows the cardiologist to
visualize the arteries that supply the heart with blood and determine if
a blockage is causing a heart attack.
Rapid assessment, diagnosis and treatment means less muscle damage and
quicker recovery and are the primary goal of the Chest Pain Center at
Silver Cross Hospital. This organized approach to the care of the
cardiac patient also includes the hospital's Intensive Care Unit that
is staffed with highly trained professionals who care for and educate
patients during the recovery period following their treatment.
The Chest Pain Center is another example of how Silver Cross Hospital is
treating patients the way they should be treated—with fast, lifesaving
care.
