Whether you are thinking about having a baby or already expecting, we invite you to experience the Birthing Center at Silver Cross. Nothing is more precious than the gift of life. And that’s why we’re so dedicated and proud of our Birthing Center. When you have your child at Silver Cross, you automatically become part of our family. A hospital room is no place for a woman to give birth. That’s why we created our luxury birthing suites. The birthing suites at Silver Cross are for Labor/Delivery/Recovery (LDR) so you have the convenience of staying in the same room through recovery, followed by a stay in our beautiful post-partum suites.

Everything for Your Comfort

Everything is ready for you from the moment you arrive. Even complimentary valet parking and shuttle service. Each birthing suite has soft lighting and soothing décor designed to put you at ease with thoughtful touches you’ll appreciate. The moment you walk into one of our suites you’ll feel at home. Every suite has an easily adjustable labor bed and labor ball available. Some rooms also include an immersion tub to help ease labor. We also offer a variety of pain relief methods including breathing techniques, medications and epiurals provided by an anesthesiologist available in-house 24 hours a day. With other amenities like blanket warmers private bathrooms with showers, in-room refrigerator, CD/VCR/DVD players and a gift bag, you will feel pampered immediately. There is even a recliner/sleeper chair for your support person.

Everything for Your Peace of Mind

Our outstanding obstetrician/ gynecologists and experienced medical team are on alert to help at any time. Upon your arrival, you’ll be “partnered” with a specially trained obstetrical nurse who’ll assist you throughout your stay.

LEVEL II Skilled Newborn Nursery

Pregnancies range from the routine to the delicate and our staff is ready to take care of problems that may arise. In addition to a typical nursery, the Birthing Center at Silver Cross has a Level II skilled infant care nursery with specialized staff. A requirement for designation of a Level II nursery is affiliation with a perinatal network for high-risk pregnancies. Our agreement is with the Rush University Medical Center.

State-of-the-art medical equipment is set up and ready inside the suite’s cabinetry, if needed.

Neonatal/Pediatric Specialists

In addition to our superb staff, Silver Cross Hospital has partnered with Children’s Memorial Hospital to ensure that a specially trained neonatologist or pediatrician is onsite 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Having a doctor from Children’s present is a benefit since they can provide expert specialty care to newborns that may otherwise need to be transported to Chicago or a specialty center outside the community.

Cesarean Suite

While the birthing suites are fully equipped for labor, delivery, and recovery, some deliveries require surgery. And that’s why we have a complete cesarean suite in our Birthing Center.

Telemedicine

Another feature offered by the Silver Cross Birthing Center is the telemedicine program in conjunction with the Children’s Memorial cardiologists. Telemedicine is a cutting edge diagnostic tool that allows pediatric cardiology specialists to analyze a baby’s echocardiogram in real time through a video linkage with Silver Cross.

Certified Lactation Consultants

Certified lactation consultants are always available for support to new moms who choose to breastfeed their babies. They offer education and support before, and after delivery. Even when you return home with your baby.

Safe, Secure Environment

As a one of the Top 100 Hospitals in the nation, we pride ourselves on providing you and your baby with a safe environment. We have a state-of-theart infant security system along with secured entrances to the Birthing Center to give you peace of mind.

We invite you to tour the Silver Cross Birthing Center in person or in the comfort of your home. Simply call 1-888-660-HEAL (4325) to request an appointment or a video tour on VHS or DVD.

Online Nursery

New parents can announce the arrival of their newborn on our website at www.silvercross.org. If you choose to participate in this free service, your baby’s photo will be taken while you’re in the hospital and posted on the Silver Cross Online Nursery for family and friends to share in your joy.
