Intensive Outpatient Chemical Dependency Program (IOP)

The Silver Cross Hospital Chemical Dependency IOP Program helps patients begin the recovery process through intensive education, counseling and support. The goal is to promote lifestyle changes supportive of recovery.

The program is based on the belief that abuse of drugs including alcohol may produce dysfunction in people’s lives resulting in negative consequences. These consequences may affect the abuser as well as their significant relationships. Persons admitted to the program might be experiencing significant physical, psychological, familial, social, legal, occupational or educational deficits related to their inappropriate use of drugs.

A interdisciplinary treatment team consisting of Certified Addictions Counselors, Registered Nurses, and Social Workers provide services under the direction of a Physician. The Intensive Outpatient Program is structured in a way that enables individuals to meet family, work, and other responsibilities of daily living while receiving services.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP) criteria for admission:

  • The client and/or significant other reports problematic behavior and/or symptoms of chemical dependency during or as a result of psychoactive drug use.
  • The client is 18 years or older.
  • The client has a likelihood of being abstinent from psychoactive drugs (with the exception of caffeine, nicotine or prescribed medications) during the course of the program.
  • No use of any psychoactive medication (except as prescribed by a physician in the treatment of dual diagnosis).
