Procedural Care Unit FAQ
The Procedural Care Unit (PCU) was designed to place clinical expertise and equipment with dedicated support services in one integrated area to enhance the delivery of quality care to our patients. The unit has been designed for flexibility, operational efficiencies, and advanced technology. The consolidation of these procedural services into a central location minimizes unnecessary patient movement and helps to promote quality outcomes and safety.
Location of Services
Located on the second floor of Silver Cross Hospital, the PCU includes the following clinical procedural suites and their respective pre/post recovery rooms that can be easily accessed from the PCU Family Lounge.

PCU Frequently Asked Questions
How will I know when my loved one will be finished with surgery/procedure?
You can track the progress by viewing the TV monitors in the PCU Family Lounge or simply ask the staff at the desk.
When will the doctor talk to family members on status of the surgery/procedure?
Communication from the physician will depend on the length of the surgery/procedure. Usually the doctor speaks to family members when the surgery/procedure is completed.
The monitoring board says my loved one is in Pre/Post Recovery but why can’t I go and see him/her?
Once the nursing staff tells the PCU front desk staff the patient is awake and able to see visitors, a volunteer will bring you back to see your loved one.
Can family members leave the PCU Lounge?
Yes, please leave your cellular phone number with a staff member at the front desk so we can contact you if necessary.
Where are the restrooms?
The restrooms are located outside the PCU Lounge past the elevators on the left.
My cell phone battery is low, do you have a charger?
Yes. Battery chargers for both iPhones and Android phones are available to borrow at the PCU receptionist desk.
Do you have Wi-Fi access, so I can work on my computer while I wait?
Yes. Free Wi-Fi access is available throughout the Hospital campus.
And do you have a printer?
No, we don’t have printer access for visitors.
Where can I get a cup of coffee or something to eat while I wait?
Hospital Lobby, First Floor
• Monday-Friday, 6 a.m.-2 a.m.
• Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m. -5 p.m.
Java City Coffee Kiosk
• Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Seasons Dining Room
• 7 days a week, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
Is there a place outside where I can walk or sit?
Yes. There is a walking path that circles the front of the hospital that has benches for visitors to relax, and the Serenity Garden is an outdoor patio that can be accessed through the Seasons Dining Room.
Do you have a store where I can purchase a magazine, candy
or gift for my loved one?
Yes. The Childerguild Gift Shop is located on the first floor off the Hospital Lobby and is open 7 days a week:
• Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. -8 p.m.
• Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
• Sunday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
The shop features many unique items including exclusive gifts, jewelry, handbags, toys, books, baby clothes; as well as flowers, candy, balloons, and magazines.
Walgreens Pharmacy is also conveniently located in Pavilion A.

• Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Do you have a Chapel?
Yes. Visitors can access the Chapel from the first floor of the hospital off the Lobby. The Chapel is opened 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is a non-denominational sacred space.
Do you have a quiet place where I can read?
Yes. A Library is located in the Lobby. It may be reserved for meetings, but if so a sign will be posted on the door.
What is the Discharge Lounge?
The Discharge Lounge is located off the Lobby and is a private area where patients can comfortably wait for their ride home.
Do you have Valet Parking?
• Monday-Friday, 6 a.m.-6 p.m.
• Saturday, 6 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
• Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m
