Childerguild Supports Women’s/Children’s Services at Silver Cross

Founded in 1910, Childerguild was comprised of 13 women who did not have children of their own and wanted to serve the children of our area. Childerguild was formed to benefit the obstetrics and pediatrics departments at Silver Cross Hospital. Remaining true to their focus, Childerguild has donated more than $2 million over the past 98 years to fund various hospital projects including various equipment and expansion projects emphasizing their support for women and children.

In November of 2007, Childerguild hosted their 79th Annual Ball, with proceeds funding a new portable Ultrasound Machine. Childerguild is proud to be able to provide this special piece of equipment, which is vital to the services provided to expectant mothers in our community.

Each December, Childerguild also donates video games, DVD's, coloring books and toys to the Pediatric Unit to be used throughout the year by children hospitalized on the unit. Special silver spoons are given to every newborn born on the Obstetrics Unit at Silver Croiss as well as a gift basket is given to the first new born of the year.

Childerguild continues to raise funds by hosting their annual Ball held the Saturday before Thanksgiving and by operating the hospital's gift shop. The Childerguild Gift Shop is open six days a week and is located in the Smith Pavilion at Silver Cross Hospital. Customers can still find many of the same type of items that were originally sold in 1950, when the gift shop first opened its doors, as well as more modern treasures such as Beanie Babies, Webkins, Willow Tree figurines, baby clothes, books, jewelry and handbags.

Childerguild recently elected new officers: Robin Hartney (President), Georgia Alberico (Vice President), Kathy Giegerich and Kathleen Meyers (Second Vice Presidents), Cathy Smith (Secretary), Donna Galligan (Club Treasurer), and Jane Hopkins (Shop Treasurer).
