Friends of Silver Cross

Dear Friends,

My name is Karl Maurer and I am so happy to be part of Friends of Silver Cross because I know how important a replacement hospital is to my family and every family in Will County.

I wanted to tell you about what happened yesterday at the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board meeting. The Board deferred Silver Cross’ application for a replacement hospital until the July meeting. Unfortunately, the Board had to defer Silver Cross’ application because of a technicality, due to last minute submissions by the attorneys for the City of Joliet.

I wholeheartedly believe in Silver Cross plans to provide better healthcare for the region. The city of Joliet’s stalling tactics to prevent my children, your children and other families throughout the area from receiving top-notch health care is deplorable.

That is why I decided to write the letter to the editor below which I am submitting to the Joliet Herald News today. You can make your voices heard too!

Dear Editor:

Thank you for the Herald’s recent endorsement of the new Silver Cross Hospital.

Sadly, the city of Joliet’s high priced attorneys, given months to prepare for the May 20th hearing, found enough last minute legal loop-holes to force yet another delay in bringing better healthcare to Will County.

These low-ball tactics show how desperate and lame the city of Joliet’s case against Silver Cross’ expansion really is. Unable to argue their case on merit, the city of Joliet has instead opted to stall and obstruct, wasting precious time and tax dollars in the process.

Hopefully, the state board will see through their charade.

Anyone with any experience in modern healthcare who knows Silver Cross’ circumstances recognizes that the best investment for the future of Will County is a new, totally modern facility.

As the parent of a sick child who will benefit directly from Children’s Memorial’s expanded facilities at the new Silver Cross, it is infuriating to be subjected to further delays that will hurt thousands of disabled children in Will County. Stalling to push a political agenda at the expense of sick children is beyond pathetic.
