Friends of Silver CrossSilver Cross, Children’s Memorial to Bring More Specialty Services to Your FamilyGreat news for all of the families and children in Will County...Silver Cross Hospital is partnering with Children’s Memorial Hospital to bring specialty services to Will County. Some of the specialty services that will be available to your family on our new hospital campus include Cardiology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Pulmonary Medicine, Rheumatology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Urology. This will benefit area families, including Will County residents Karl and Gayle Maurer, and their six-year-old son, Dominic. Read the Maurer family’s story...Dominic was born in Joliet in 2002 with serious health conditions, including a complex heart defect and a neurological disorder. He needed a pediatric team of specialists, but the necessary level and specialty of care was not available in Will County. Instead, the Maurers had to make the 50-mile trip to Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, and continue to make that same trip regularly for the past six years to get the care Dominic needs. “We have to be in the car headed downtown at 4:30 a.m. for Dominic to be ready for his 7:30 a.m. cardiac appointment,” said Karl Maurer, “and we make these trips several times a year. We are thrilled that Silver Cross’ replacement hospital brings hope that sick children and their families won’t always have to travel all the way into Chicago to receive specialized care.” Pediatric cardiac care is just one of the many new services that will be available as a result of the enhanced partnership with Children’s Memorial Hospital. “I look forward to the day when Dominic can be treated in Will County so that area families like mine have the opportunity to stay closer to home, near their support network, when their kids need special care,” said Maurer.
