The Way You Should Be Treated.
Generation after generation, families like yours have depended on Silver Cross Hospital for the most advanced and personalized care available anywhere. Our commitment goes back to Thanksgiving Day in 1895 when the Will County Union of King’s Daughters and Sons opened the doors to a 33-bed hospital in Joliet. They named it Silver Cross, after their emblem - the Maltese cross.
They made a promise to provide quality healthcare with compassion for the citizens of Will County and surrounding communities. Well over a century later, we remain true to that promise. Quite simply, it's the way you should be treated.
Partnerships with Renowned Specialists
As the needs of our community have grown, so has Silver Cross—in both size and stature. Our many healthcare services rapidly expanded, evolved and increased in complexity. To serve you and your loved ones even better than before, we've proudly partnered with many of Chicago's leading academic medical centers, bringing extraordinarily advanced care close to home. Our esteemed partners include:
Internationally Acclaimed Robotic Surgery Program
Silver Cross is also home to the Midwest Institute for Robotic Surgery, the largest robotic surgery program in the Chicago area. Surgeons from around the world train with our team.
Award-Winning Care
At Silver Cross, we pride ourselves on delivering unrivaled care to every patient, every time. As a result, our focus on safety, quality and patient experience has earned us numerous national awards over the years.
We first achieved national prominence when we were recognized as one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals in 2004—an accomplishment that we've repeated 11 times—most recently in 2023.
What's more, we've been acknowledged as one of American’s Friendliest Hospitals and one of the nation's safest hospitals by earning Straight A’s for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group.
Expansive Healthcare Campus
The mission of providing quality healthcare continues today with a remarkable 348-bed replacement hospital, which opened in 2012. All patient rooms are private—accommodating today’s highly advanced medical technology and ultimately reducing unnecessary transfers and the risk of infection and injury. The hospital’s unique design creates efficiencies between departments and promotes an environment that helps patients heal faster.
Our 129-acre New Lenox campus includes several medical buildings with physician offices and outpatient services, the Carolyn J. Czerkies Pavilion—home to UChicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center at Silver Cross, and an ambulatory surgery center, and Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospital.
Ambulatory Care
Over the years, Silver Cross has developed an extensive ambulatory network throughout the region that includes several satellite facilities with doctors' offices, outpatient testing and physical therapy, including Silver Cross Medical Group and Premier Suburban Medical Group locations. What's more, Silver Cross operates a 24/7 freestanding Emergency Care Center in Homer Glen and Urgent Care centers in New Lenox and Mokena.
Patient-Family Centered Care
We use evidence-based design principles proven to help patients heal faster. In fact, our hospital’s design allows us to enhance how we deliver care to our patients and gives us the opportunity to incorporate family members into the healing process. But as the patient, you choose how much involvement you desire.
This concept, called Patient-Family Centered Care, isn’t new to healthcare or to Silver Cross; we’ve always been focused on providing award-winning, quality care, excellent service and state-of-the-art facilities to provide an even better experience for you and your family.
Patient-Family Centered Care revolves around four core concepts:
- Respect and dignity. We listen to and honor your perspectives and choices. In fact, we incorporate your knowledge, values, beliefs and cultural backgrounds into the planning and delivery of your care.
- Information Sharing. We communicate and share complete and unbiased information with you in ways that are affirming and useful. You and your family receive timely, complete, and accurate information so that you can effectively participate in care and decision-making.
- Participation. We encourage you and your family to participate in care and decision-making at the level they choose.
- Collaboration. We involve patients and families in developing policies and programs; facility design; professional education; as well as in the delivery of care.
