In recognition of the American Diabetes Association’s American Diabetes Alert, the Silver Cross Diabetes Center, Walgreens and Joliet Noon Lions Club will offer free screenings to detect diabetes on Tuesday, March 28 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. outside Silver Cross Hospital’s Season’s Dining Room, 1900 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox.  Participants will be offered a Diabetes Risk Test and Blood Glucose Test.  For more information, call (815) 300-5990.

John Arrotti, M.D., cardiology and board certified internal medicine physician, has joined the Silver Cross Medical Staff. Dr. Arrotti attended medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago. He completed an internal medicine residency at Northwestern University and a cardiology fellowship at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood.  His office is located with Heart Care Centers of Illinois, 10260 W. 191st Street Ste. 102, Mokena. Silver Cross Sleep Disorders Center Hosts Free Lecture March 22

If snoring is keeping you up at night, you are not alone.  About half of all people snore at some point in their lives. It is more common among men and those who are overweight, but snoring is a problem of both genders.  Snoring appears to run in families and usually becomes more serious as people age.  Not only can it affect your daytime function but it can lead to hypertension, heart disease, mood and memory problems, and even death. 

Silver Cross offers a free program about peripheral artery disease on March 30.

According to the American Heart Association, peripheral artery disease is a serious medical condition that affects 8.5 million American adults. However many people don’t know they have it. Are you one of them? Silver Cross Hospital is offering a free program that will inform area residents about the causes and treatments for peripheral artery disease.

The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) at Silver Cross Hospital recently announced the appointment of Megan Parkes, M.D. as medical director overseeing all inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services offered throughout the hospital system.  She will lead RIC-Silver Cross’s acute care medical/surgical physical medicine program and 25 bed-rehabilitation unit as well as the four outpatient therapy facilities located at the Hospital, and at 250 E. Maple St. in New Lenox, 1051 Essington Rd in Joliet and 12701 W. 143rd St. in Homer Glen.
