RIC at Silver Cross opens Brain and Balance Clinic in Joliet
Have you ever felt unsteady or dizzy? Or maybe you sometimes lose your footing when walking or climbing stairs. As adults, we tend to make excuses for falling relating it to shear clumsiness or a sign of aging when instead it may be caused by certain health conditions, medications, or a problem in the inner ear or the brain. But without proper treatment, falls can result in hip fractures, broken bones, and head injuries. And even falls without a major injury can cause an older adult to become fearful or depressed, making it difficult for them to stay active.

Silver Cross Wins Healthcare Marketing Awards
Hospital Recognized at 2016 ISHMPR Pinnacle Awards Ceremony Oct. 27
The Illinois Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations (ISHMPR) honored marketing, public relations and communications professionals from across the state at its Annual Conference and Pinnacle Awards Presentation Oct. 27 in Galena, IL. Silver Cross Hospital received 10 Pinnacle Awards including Best of Show for Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission’s partnership with Warren Sharpe Community Center’s Green Sprout Urban Farm. The Commission provided $30,000 in funding to educate area youth about agriculture, healthy food choices, entrepreneurship, and increase physical activity along with supporting the Warren-Sharpe Community Center’s food pantry. An additional $3,500 was donated to sponsor 15 children and 5 adults to travel to Washington D.C. to tour First Lady Michelle Obama’s White House Garden in 2015.
Silver Cross Earns ‘A’ Grade for Patient Safety in Fall 2016 Hospital Safety Score
Silver Cross Hospital has once again been recognized for its dedication to patient safety by being awarded an “A” grade in the Fall 2016 Hospital Safety Score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from errors, accidents, injuries, and infections. Only 45 out of 113 hospitals in Illinois received an “A” and Silver Cross is the only hospital in Will County to do so. This is the 4th time in a row Silver Cross has received a Hospital Safety Score of an “A.”
Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission Provides Books to the Fairmont Grade School – District #89
The Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission and Discover Books recently donated over 1,500 books to the Fairmont Grade – District #89. Jay Michael Holder of the J. F. Holder Foundation heard the cry of Fairmont School District #89 regarding their need of books and contacted the Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission for assistance.
