Silver Cross Hospital offers free breast cancer lecture on March 25

New Lenox, IL (March 7, 2014) — According to the American Cancer Society, in 2013 an estimated 232,340 new cases of invasive breast cancer were diagnosed among women, as well as an estimated 62,570 new cases of carcinoma in situ (CIS) will be diagnosed this year.  CIS is non-invasive and is the earliest form of breast cancer.  Silver Cross Hospital is offering a free lecture to teach how treatment of the disease has evolved over time.

Oftentimes colorectal cancer can be detected and prevented if simple steps are followed. Silver Cross Hospital is offering a free lecture and screening to teach prevention and detection tips. 

Silver Cross Sleep Disorders Center Offers Relief to Sleepless Nights

New Lenox, IL (January 6, 2014) — For over ten years, 50 year-old Mike Palomar suffered from constant sleepless nights. He always felt sluggish, could fall asleep any time of the day, was unable to control his weight, and struggled to do daily activities.  His wife often complained of his loud snoring or alarming moments of sleep when he didn’t appear to be breathing.  He decided to seek help and was referred by his doctor, family medicine physician Ann Mitrakul, M.D., to have a sleep study at the Silver Cross Sleep Disorders Center located in Pavilion A at     I-355 and Route 6 in New Lenox. Here, it was determined that he indeed had sleep apnea. Now, Palomar enjoys many restful nights’ sleep and even has more energy to enjoy his hobby of bowling two to three times a week. 

Silver Cross Hospital Expands the Treatment Window for Patients with 24/7 stroke care

New Lenox, IL  (Dec. 20, 2013)--Donna Gudgel woke up at her usual time of 5 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2013.  As she went to get out of bed, she fell to the floor.  A blood clot on the left side of her brain caused a stroke, leaving the 58-year-old unable to move the right side of her body and speak clearly.  Gudgel thought if she lay back down, she would feel better. She didn’t.  Scared, she contacted her supervisor who recognized Gudgel’s slurred speech as something critically wrong and called 911.  Emergency medical services (EMS) from Homer Glen arrived at her home and rushed her to the closest primary stroke center, Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. 

New Lenox, IL (December 12, 2013) — After being diagnosed with colon cancer and undergoing 10 radiation treatments at the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center at Silver Cross Hospital, Arthur Grindler and his daughters Barbara Widelski– a three time cancer survivor, and Laura Luzan wanted to express their gratitude to his physician Dr. Daniel Golden and the entire care team that supported him. Arthur and Barbara donated an inspirational plaque and a shiny, brass ship’s bell to share a gift of hope and inspire cancer patients.
