Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox honored its volunteers at the annual recognition luncheon held at the Bolingbrook Golf Club in Bolingbrook on April 9.  With four volunteer organizations: Advisory Board (Encore Resale Shop), Childerguild (Gift Shop) and The Will County Union of King’s Daughters and Sons (founders of Silver Cross) and Inservice volunteers, more than 780 area residents donate their time and talents to raise funds for the hospital and assist in daily operations.  Over the last year, they have given 55,000 hours of service and raised over $396,000 for the Silver Cross Foundation. Students Shadow Silver Cross Nurses and Clinical Staff

Recently, 14 Joliet Township Central and West High School students took a break from class and came to Silver Cross Hospital for real-life lessons on April 4 and 11.  The free program offered a valuable experience and unique opportunity for sophomores enrolled in an advisory class, allowing them real insight into medical careers.  

University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center at Silver Cross offers free lecture on May 16

According to a study by the American Cancer Society and National Cancer Institute, colorectal cancer has risen steadily among young and middle-aged U.S. adults. The findings come as an overall decline in new cases of colon or rectal cancer have declined among people older than 50, who were believed to be most at risk of the disease and therefore most likely to be screened via a colonoscopy. However, the current data shows colon and rectal cancer diagnoses among patients in their 20s increased annually by 2.4 percent and 1 percent for those in their 30s. If you are at risk for colorectal cancer, The University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center at Silver Cross Hospital is offering a free lecture for you to learn how to prevent the deadly disease.

Orthopedic Surgeons with Midwest Institute for Robotic Surgery to talk about hip/knee replacement

Walking, taking a bath, getting dressed, and even putting on socks was difficult for Cindy Kittle. Kittle suffers from arthritis due to a condition called hip dysplasia, which means the hip socket did not completely form when she was a child. This can often lead to arthritis at a young age. Her rheumatologist – Dr. Saba Ahmed, referred Kittle to a local orthopedic surgeon.  But due to the complexity of the disease, he sent her to Dr. T. Andrew Ehmke with the Midwest Institute for Robotic Surgery at Silver Cross Hospital
