Silver Cross Hosts Medical-Surgical Nursing Overview & Certification Review Course
New Lenox, IL (Mar. 6, 2014)—Silver Cross Hospital will host a Medical-Surgical Nursing Overview and Certification Review Course March 20 and 21 for nurses who are preparing to take the medical-surgical certification exam or are interested in a review of the body systems and current nursing interventions. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center, Pavilion A, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox, IL.
At the end of the program, participants will be able to describe techniques for preparing for a Medical-Surgical Certification exam; relate the pathophysiologic basis of various disease states to the nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation necessary, identify outcome criteria and evaluative criteria used by nurses to determine effectiveness of nursing care of various Medical-Surgical patients; and outline the legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities inherent in being a Medical-Surgical nurse caring for a variety of patients. In addition, topics covered include test taking tips, fluid and electrolytes, immune system, pain, cancer, post-op, nutrition, gastroenterology, respiratory, and hematology; diabetes, cardiovascular, endocrine, genitourinary, renal, musculoskeletal, neurologic, and integumentary systems, and nursing practice issues.
The course will be lead by Betty Jo Ernst, APRN BC, CMSRN. She has over twenty years of clinical experience in the Adult health areas of ICU, ED, Recovery and Med-Surg. She is currently the Clinical Outcomes Manager for Heart Failure at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, MO and has lectured on numerous topics in Med-Surg nursing.
The course is $250. Food will be available for purchase in the Silver Cross Hospital Season’s Dining Room or from vending machines near the Conference Center.
